![]() I probably cried five times, I lost count. With this, I realized that the story is now taking on an emotional turn, and I really love it. In a way, it’s also very profound and yes, a little bit depressing. The author definitely does not shy away from the horrors of traumatic past lives and I love that. It was haunting, dark, straightforward and harsh. “It sounded like a dream it tasted like damnation.” The Raven King (Book #2)Ī couple of people told me that the sequel is better than the first book, and I’m gonna have to agree! I feel like the writing style is better here (or maybe I just got used to the author’s story-telling?). “Hope was a dangerous, disquieting thing, but he thought perhaps he liked it.” Right now, this first book seemed more like prologue as it mainly introduced the characters, the world, the game, and everything else.Īlso, THIS BOOK IS INSANE BUT SO, SO GOOD. It contains a lot of elements and factors which just makes me more curious as a reader. ![]() Kevin Day, on the other hand…you can’t help but admire him and feel for him once you get to know him and and his story. Andrew Minyard shocked me with his entrance (SERIOUSLY!!!!), annoyed me, then started rubbing off on me. He went through a lot, he has a lot psychological trauma, and we see him trying to relearn how to live in such a normal setting instead of running from city to city. ![]() Neil Josten, our main character, is definitely an intriguing character, and I just can’t help wanting to witness his journey as he moves forward in this strange chapter in his life. Some of them (okay maybe a lot) were a tad annoying and maybe psychotic, but I really wanted to know more of them. ![]() They were all so intriguing, mysterious, and unpredictable, and with the way the story is being told, I got invested in them and their own stories and journeys. The characters (which happen to be my favorite part of the story) got me hooked. There are minor grammatical errors that irked me a little bit (just a couple of missed commas), but otherwise, it’s all good. I love the author’s use of metaphors there’s something about them that’s both melancholic and harsh. Instead it was dark and straightforward, and it really lets the characters stand out. It’s not poetic or too emotional or anything like that. It can take a while before you can get a grasp of it, but as you read more, you learn more about it through the characters. In the books, it was described as “a bastard sport, an evolved sort of lacrosse on a soccer-sized court with the violence of ice hockey…”. Next is that, the story partly revolves around this fictional sport called Exy. So, if by any chance you want to read these books after I finish rambling below, please keep this information in mind. It can get intense. With that said, I feel like this series belongs more to the Adult/New Adult bracket, rather than Young Adult. This isn’t sunshine and butterflies, this is smoke and fire and bruises. It deals with a lot of mature content and sensitive themes such as drug abuse, murder, child abuse, violence, rape, psychological trauma, self-harm, and a lot more. It’s truly amazing in its own way.įirst and foremost, you need to know that this book is not fluffy or anything like that. This series took my breath away, surprised me in every way possible, and made me fall in love with the characters and their stories. I started the first book with very little expectations and a bit of hesitation (I saw some mixed reviews and low ratings), but now, it’s safe to say that this trilogy is one of my fave reads this 2019. Since it was free on Kindle, I went ahead and downloaded it. But before that, I’ve already seen them in a few photos in bookstagram, so I’m already familiar with the book covers. I’ve had several people suggest The Foxhole Court to me as a book for my Pride Month TBR. Genres: Contemporary, Sports Fiction, LGBTQ+ I’ll try hard not to spoil anything! (And since I feel like this is too long, there is tl dr at the bottom!) Discovering All for the Game And so, I decided to just binge read the rest of the series and make a series review.Īlright, I’ll go ahead and start. Not only about the first book, but the second one as well. As a result, I had no time to make a book review for the first.Ģ) I realized I had a lot more to talk about and share with you guys. Instead of a book review, I came up with a series review of my own.ġ) After reading the first book of this series, I immediately devoured the next one. Hi book nerds! Today’s post is a little different.
